Woods underwent ankle surgery in May after enduring “constant” pain across his three rounds at Augusta National the previous month, only his second competitive appearance of 2023. How can someone that talented go more than four years without winning on the LPGA Tour? It's not about how many men Thompson beat over 36 holes. Golf is one of the few sports that allows for men and women playing together, and the PGA Tour is just now getting up to speed. Men and women compete for one prize (the women play from a shorter set of tees). Europe needed four points from Sunday's 12 singles to continue their incredible 30-year unbeaten home and wins for Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton and a half for Jon Rahm took them to 14 points. Fleetwood hit a brilliant tee shot on the 16th and after sending his eagle putt close, Fowler conceded the remaining four-footer to leave the Englishman two up with two to play and guaranteed at least the half point Europe needed. He helped put Europe on the brink by winning his fourth match of the week to cap off his best performance. And then Fleetwood hit a signature shot on the signature hole at Marco Simone, a drive to 25 feet on the reachable 16th. Rickie Fowler hit into the water and eventually conceded a short birdie to Fleetwood to give Europe the 14 1/2 points it needed. All Europe needed was one more halve, and Fleetwood assured that with a 2-up lead with two holes to play against Fowler.
